The head of environmental department in Bwari area council, Haruna Ahmed has appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to provide equipment to the council to aid it in its sanitation exercise.
Speaking during an interview with newsmen, Ahmed stated that the department had only one pay loader to work with but that the area council could not provide the equipment needed as they were costly.
“Since the creation of the department, we have no equipment to work with. Mostly, we have to hire them and they are very costly. We are managing one old pay loader that we have. We are appealing to the FCTA to assist us with equipment. We can’t get it because it is very costly. It has not been easy for us,” he said.
Ahmed, who also stated that the department needed more pay loaders and tippers, said that the department also lacked staff that would help the sanitation exercise of the area.?
“We are poor in terms of manpower. We are just 10 but we need about 20 or 30 people. The junior staff have to come from the area council itself while the senior ones have to come from the area council service commission. So we are appealing that they should assist us.”
He also called on construction companies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to help the council as part of their social responsibility to the people, in the provision of some equipment adding that it would go a long way in helping the department in its drive to create a dirt free council.
“We don’t have monitoring vehicles. Sometimes, we have to use our cars. We need cars so that it would help us do house to house supervision. We tried it in Dutse and it was successful but it took us almost a week to finish up,” he said.
