Suspected armed robbers on Wednesday killed a police Inspector and one civilian? at marina? area of Sokoto metropolis.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that Alhaji Aliyu Musa, commissioner of police, confirmed the incident.
?Musa said the two persons were killed at about 6 a.m. by armed robbers, who attempted to rescue a member of their gang detained at the Marina Police? Station.
He added that the slain officer, Saidu Adamu attempted to prevent the robbers from entering the station and in the ensuing struggle was shot and died on the spot.
Musa said the robbers had on Tuesday tried to rob Zumunci Pharmacy at Sultan Abubakar road but the operation was thwarted by a police patrol team.
The commissioner added that the policemen? nabbed one Haruna Hamza during a hot chase while three other robbers escaped on a motor cycle.
He, however, said that the suspected robber was detained and had provided useful information to the police that would lead to the arrest of those now at large.
Musa dispelled insinuations making the rounds in the metropolis that a bomb was defused in the area, saying there was nothing like that.
He said the police would leave “no stone unturned'' to arrest the miscreants.
The police chief appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that would aid the police to track down the miscreants.?
He said that already the command had taken proactive security measures to sustain the peaceful nature the state was known for.
