Benue State Government has approved the release of N1.485b for the procurement of 400 trucks of assorted brands of fertiliser for distribution and sales to farmers in the? 2012 cropping season.
The state government has also approved the release and payment of the sum of N407, 000,000 into the Central Bank Escrow Account to ensure that the state’s farmers benefited from the federal government facility under the agricultural transformation programme.
State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Eugene Aliegba disclosed this yesterday, in Makurdi, at a ministerial press briefing while presenting the score card of the ministry in the last one year.
Aliegba reiterated the determination of? Governor Suswam’s administration to ensure that good quality? fertiliser? reached? genuine farmers. He revealed that the ministry had? awarded the contract for the supply of fertiliser to three reliable contractors.
The Commissioner said that the contractors had already swung into? action to make sure that their contract was delivered on? time.
Meanwhile? farmers in Benue State have urged the state government to hasten up the fertiliser procurement process to help them achieve good yields in this year’s cropping season.
