Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, yesterday ordered the Lagos State Building Investment Company Limited (LBIC) to stop further collection of down payment from prospective property buyers of houses in the Igando Housing Estate.
Fashola, who gave the order after inspecting the estate, said the circumstances surrounding the development and sale of the massive housing estate was a source of worry to the state government.
He however assured that his government would not only complete the project but also add additional units and upgrade access roads to the estate.
According to him, “We will finally decide the best way to complete the project and to add more units of houses and, of course, you will see the urgent need for access roads as well. So all of these will now go into the revised project plan, because it would have an impact on cost. We are mindful that some people have paid; so I have asked them to stop taking payments.”??
The governor added that when the review is completed, the state will come out with the terms for those who want to continue with the scheme.??
“So when we decide, we can now say this is what it will take to finish and this is what we expect those who are still interested to pay in addition, in order to also share the cost of infrastructure; otherwise, if we can’t open up the access road here, this asset will really not worth their while”, he said.??
Fashola, who had earlier handed over a total of eight inner roads totaling about 13 kilometres to the Alimosho community, said government embarked on construction of many roads to solve problem of bad roads in the state, which, according to him, was in fulfilment of his campaign promises.?
