The Imo State police command recorded a major breakthrough on Wednesday by rescuing 10 victims in a thick forest believed to be the hideout of kidnappers in Orogwe, Owerri West local government areas of the state.
The state police commissioner, Mr Christopher Dega, who briefed journalists after the 3-hour hunt in the forest, disclosed that the police acted on a tip-off from a good citizen of the state and stormed the forest.
Although he said that none of the kidnappers was arrested as they all ran on sighting them, he quickly added that the 10 victims, who were kept in the same place, had been reunited with their families.??
Similarly, the command has arrested one Nze Athanatus Emeghara, alleged to be the sponsor of the kidnap and subsequent killing of the traditional ruler of Umueze, Abazu Ogwa in Mbaitoli local government area, Eze Stanley Akuneto.
Briefing journalists, the state police public relations officer, Mr. Samuel Oodee said that the suspect was arrested alongside one of the suspected killers of the late monarch, Onyekachi Onyemaobi.
The police image maker said that the suspects had confessed of how they were paid N500,000 to kill the monarch with a promise of paying the balance of the same amount when the job was done.
