Over 250 golfers are expected to compete in the maiden edition of Chetex Open golf competition billed for June 2 and 3, 2012 at the golf section of the Kano Club.
The competition is being sponsored by a Kano-based businessman and sports philanthropist, Alhaji Habibu Abdullahi and is expected to attract golfers from golf clubs across Nigeria. They will vie for various trophies and prizes in the different categories of the 18-hole context tournament.
According to Kano professional golfer, Lawan Malam, all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the success of the tournament, adding that organising such a tournament was to enable them develop their skills as well as adapt to the modern trend of the game.
Malam further called on the players to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship throughout the championship and conduct themselves in a good manner for the good of the game.
Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion, include top government officials, traditional rulers, businessmen and philanthropists.
