Kano To Establish IPP Next Year

Kano State government is to establish an Independent Power Plant [IPP] next year to address electricity problem in the state. The state governor, Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso who disclosed this in an interview with journalists, yesterday, said that Challawa Gorge and Tiga Dams would be used for the execution of the project.

He said the project proposed to be sited in the area was expected to solve erratic electricity supply when? fully established.

“Kano has a very high demand of electricity in view of so many industries and its high population, that is why we have to do something urgently because of limited time at our disposal”, the governor said.

He said that funds would be made available in the next year’s budgetary proposal to actualise the project, adding that government was considering various options to ensure that neither its possible partners, the government nor the general public suffer in the process.

Kwankwaso also said that in the meantime, there was plan to provide street lights in major roads along BUK new site, Hadejia road, Katsina road and a host of others to further enhance security and beautify the city.

The state governor has also disclosed that the state central prison would be relocated to Janguza area along Gwarzo road in the outskirt of Kano metropolis.

The governor said during the interview that the measure was aimed at providing a better alternative for the prison which had become too close to residential areas.

He disclosed that when the prison was finally moved, the premises would be converted to a girl’s secondary school.
