Niger State Governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has given a strong indication that the state government and the federal government alongside other investors will? construct another hydroelectric dam in the Gurara Local Government Area of the state.
Aliyu said yesterday at the inauguration of a road from Bonu to the popular Gurara Water Fall that land for the project had been acquired and that other technical details to ensure the early commencement of the job are being worked out.
The Governor who also commissioned an electricity project in the area did not announce the cost of the proposed?? project but said the communities concerned would be carried along to ensure that they are not short changed in any way.
He assured that the completion of the electricity project would improve power supply in the state and other parts of the country and also attract investors to the state.
Aliyu also disclosed plans by the government to turn the Gurara Falls? to a tourist destination? and added that some investors had indicated interest in the construction of a convention building and hotel of international standard near the Falls.
He said a memorandum of understanding between the government and the investors would soon be signed which would also lead to immediate movement to site of the investors.
Governor Aliyu further disclosed that a toll plaza would be constructed at the entrance to the Falls to serve as avenue of generating funds for the government.
He expressed appreciation to the communities that provided the land for the proposed projects and assured that everything would be done to ensure that they did not regret their action.
