The Senate yesterday confirmed the nomination of Engr Ezekiel Adeniji as chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and five others as members.
The five members include Ahmed Gusau, Air Commodore Indongesit Nkanga (Rtd), Barr Ubah Maigari, Olatunji Shelle and Samuel Gwomma.
However a nominee representing the South East Zone, Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe, willingly withdrew his nomination for personal reasons.
In the same vein, the senate also confirmed the nominations of Mrs. Martina Odom from Cross River State as member of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) and Dr Sara Omotunde Alade as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The confirmations came as the Senate, in marking its one year anniversary, adjourned plenary seating till the June 19.
Presenting the report on the screening of nominees into FERMA during plenary, Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze explained that with Ugokwe’s withdrawal, the committee had resolved that a fresh nominee from the South East zone of the country be forwarded in line with the law of equitable distribution.
In his ruling, Senate President David Mark advocated that enough funds be released to FERMA to enable it carry out its duties effectively.
He also said there was the need to review the revenue allocation formula.
