Leader of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC,? Gen. MuhammaduBuhari, said yesterday that his party would soon reach an accord with the? Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, on how to wrestle power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2015.
The former presidential candidate of the CPC, who made the remark in Kano, said however that discussions between the two parties were progressing steadily.
Buhari, who was in Kano to attend the turbaning of the Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Dan Majen Kano, said that Nigerians would be informed once a deal was struck.
The former head of state said, “I can tell you that the merger talks are on but the outcome is not yet for you. No deal on the merger talks. As soon as the deal is struck, you will know.”
Buhari, who was accompanied by the former Lagos State Governor, and ACN Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, expressed optimism that they would soon reach a merger accord.
The two political leaders had met in Kaduna earlier in the week to deliberate on how they could work together in order to take over the leadership of Nigeria from the PDP, which has been in power since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
The two parties made attempt to work together to stop President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 but the alliance did not work, giving the president a smooth ride to the Villa at the end of the April poll.
However, the leaders soon returned to the drawing board to work out a modality that would make it impossible for the PDP to sweep the polls in 2015.
