Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola,? has declared Tuesday, June 12 as public holiday in the state, adding that the state will henceforth recognise June 12 as its Democracy Day.
Making this declaration on behalf of the governor in Osogbo yesterday, the state commissioner for Information and Strategy, Akinrogun Sunday Akere, stated that the date had been set aside to honour the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election,? the late Chief Moshood Kasimawo Olawale Abiola as hero of democracy in Africa, particularly in Nigeria.
The commissioner, while highlighting the programmes lined up to mark the day, said a public lecture titled, “Regionalisms and True Federalism as Panacea for Solving Nigeria’s Problem of Under- development,” would be delivered by Chief Ayo Opadokun.
Akere also stated that the state would henceforth celebrate democracy on June 12 of every year, stressing that the day represents so many things to the present administration in the state.
