The police have confirmed that six persons, including a suicide bomber, died in an explosion which occurred at the Police Headquarters in Borno on Friday.
A statement issued in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, said the bomber as well as?an Inspector of Police,?Mr Ali Bulama and four civilians died in the explosion.
It also said that three other civilians sustained injuries and?were responding to treatment.
The statement said that the “bomber rammed into the gate of the command at about 11:30 a.m. with a green Toyota Camry car, laden with Improvised Explosive Devices and detonated them.
“Combat-ready men on duty guard resisted and prevented him from gaining entry into the premises.
“Obviously acting out of frustration and desperation, he detonated the explosives outside the gate of the headquarters, killing himself in the process.
“One Inspector Ali Bulama, a gallant and very competent officer and four civilians who were passersby, lost their lives in the incident’’.
The statement said the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, condoled with the relations of the victims.
It said that Abubakar restated the commitment of the police to restore?law and order and warned that the police would not condone lawlessness. (NAN)
