The Commissioner for Local Government in Sokoto State, Alhaji Faruk Malami, said the State Government was committed to making the 23 Local Governments ?to be more efficient .
Malami told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of a reception organised?in his honour by the staff of the ministry in Sokoto on Saturday.
He said: “the State Government is really committed to making the local governments to diligently deliver the dividends of democracy to the electorate.
“The State Government has been doing?this and we will continue to do, in honour of the tremendous confidence reposed in us by the people of the state.’’
Malami said that the local government system in the state had been made “very diligent, transparent,?prudent and committed.
“We will continue to encourage the local governments to deliver the required dividends of democracy to the people.
“This is why we are in government and we have to complement?the efforts of Gov. AliyuWamakko, to further uplift the living standard of the people. ’’
Also speaking, the former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bello Gwiwa, said the State Government was committed to the provision of more roads, hospitals, schools and other?developmental?projects.
Gwiwa, who is now the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, said the 23 local governments were now financially stronger.
“They can stand on their feet,” Gwiwa said. (NAN)
