Alhaji Kawu Baraje, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed on going merger talks between the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) as wishful thinking.
Baraje in a statement on Sunday in Ilorin said the talks were propelled by selfish ambition rather than national interest.
“How can Nigerians have trust in someone that lost presidential election bid several times and even said openly at a stage that he was no longer interested in contesting elections and now suddenly shows interest.''
It stressed that the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan's administration would not be distracted by the action of the two parties.
“Their perceived gang up does not matter to us in the PDP as we are a big, eminent and strong family who majority of Nigerians have confidence in.
“They do not love Nigeria, they are only crying wolf and planning to rule Nigeria by all means but the electorates are always saying no and will continue to say no to selfish leaders as it is difficult to fool all the people all the time.''
It said the former chairman appealed to Nigerians, particularly the youths to ignore the planned gang up of the two parties against the PDP in 2015.
It quoted Baraje as pledging that President Goodluck Jonathan would continue to improve the living standard of all Nigerians irrespective of their race, religion or political affiliation.? (NAN)
