The Nigerian Army, on Tuesday in Kaduna, presented 5,000 G3 rifle guns and 25,000 ammunition to the Armed Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, said the arms and ammunition were presented to the NSCDC after various military training.
He said the corps would complement other security agencies in tackling terrorism and other criminal activities.
Ihejirika, who was represented by Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab , the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army Kaduna, tasked the security agencies to work together to overcome the current security challenges.
He said the guns and ammunition were presented to the NSCDC based on its performance in the field during the training.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Murkhtar Yero, said the state government would support the security arm to ensure a crime free state.
Yero urged the combat squad of NSCDC to be vigilant and work with the sister agencies for maximum utilisation of experiences gained at the training.
The Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro and Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr Ade Abolurin, supervised the presentation.
