The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has paid tribute to former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, who will clocks 70 years on Wednesday, describing him as “father of the nation’s democracy''.??
The forum Chairman and Governor of Niger, Dr Babangida Aliyu, said that at 70, Abubakar had remained the reference point on good governance, diplomacy, and conflict resolution in Nigeria and the world over.?
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, Aliyu said the forum is proud of Abubakar’s landmark achievements and leadership qualities.
He said Abubakar exhibited the leadership qualities in accelerating the growth and development of the country.?
The governor said that Abubakar’s dogged commitment to ethical rebirth as symbolised by the handing over of power to democratically elected civilian government in 1999, opened a new vista of hope for the people and nation building.?
“We are equally proud of General Abubakar as our ambassador of peace beyond Niger State and Nigeria.
“Especially his intervention as the head of the UN mission to Congo Kinshasa in the year 2000, Sudan and Chad in 2004,'' he said.
He prayed God to grant Abubakar excellent health, courage and many more years of selfless service to Nigeria and humanity.
