The PDP in Edo has threatened to sue Gov. Adams Oshiomhole over alleged false accusation on the death of his Principal Private Secretary, Mr Olaitan Oyerinde.
The party issued the threat via a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Mathew Orhoghide, on Tuesday in Benin.
It gave Oshiomhole a seven-day ultimatum to make public the outcome of the investigative panels set up to investigate the accident involving the governor’s convoy in April and Oyerinde’s killing.?
The statement said that the PDP could no longer fold its hands and allow Oshiomhole and his party, the ACN, to continue blaming the PDP for any misfortune that befell the ACN in the state.
“Our party cannot wait indefinitely while some people are desperately and clandestinely working to make the public forget the incidents after pointing accusing fingers in the wrong direction,’’ it said.
The statement stressed that the PDP in Edo was aggrieved by the false accusations and was formally making the following declarations:
“That the bodies vested with the task of unraveling the causes of both Oyerinde’s assassination and the accident involving the governor’s convoy should make their findings public, even if they are preliminary ones.
“That the governor should officially make the reports public with members of the press, Edo PDP and civil society organisations in attendance.
“That if the findings exonerate PDP in Edo, Gov. Oshiomhole and the ACN should tender a public apology at a press conference and publish such in 12 national daily newspapers.
“That where the findings find the PDP or any other person or persons culpable, all legal means must be expended to bring the culprits to book.
“That where these demands are not met, Edo PDP may seek redress through lawful means to vindicate itself from the malicious accusations.’’
The statement said that the PDP would also demand compensation for the trauma it suffered from the accusations.
It, however, said that the party would accept Oshiomhole’s apology if “the ACN and its agents refrain from any comments and innuendoes suggesting PDP’s complicity in the assassination and convoy accident’’.(NAN)
