Road accident rate now stands at 4,000 yearly in Nigeria, but the FRSC says it is working to reduce the rate by half by 2020.
Mr. Osita Chidoka, the Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Commission, made this known in Jos on Monday in a message to road corps members.
Chidoka spoke through Mr. Adeyemi Omidiji, the Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Planning, Research and Statistics.
“Our goal is to ensure that by 2020, the 4,000 annual road accidents in the country were reduced by at least 50 per cent.
?“We are very optimistic that we shall hit that target by 2020 as expected by the World Health Organisation, considering the tempo at which we are working,'' he said.
?Chidoka said that the commission would soon take delivery of equipment from the World Bank in aid of ?its activities.
“The World Bank appreciates our contributions to the Nigerian economy, hence the donation to the corps, “ he said.
He asked officers to live up to expectation.
