Gov. Idris Wada of Kogi on Wednesday launched the direct sale of kerosene at N50 per litre to the people of the state.
Wada said at Felele, a suburb of Lokoja that the move was to end the harrowing experience the people go through to get the product.
He commended the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan, for initiating the scheme, saying it would go along way in ameliorating the suffering of the poor families in the society.
The governor, who said that 120,000 litres of the product would be offered for sale in Lokoja and its environs, noted the gesture would be extended to the remaining local governments.
He also promised to ensure that the product was regular, warning that anybody caught sabotaging the scheme would be dealt with.
The wife of the governor, Hajia Halimah Idris Wada, said coordinators had been appointed for each of the 21 Local Government Areas in the state to ensure effective distribution of the product.
She thanked the first lady for her concern for the plight of the poor in the society and said that the move would stem deforestation.
The Manging Director of Capital Oil and Gas, Mr Patrick Ubah, promised to ensure regular supply of the product to the state.
