The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Kaduna State chapter, has kicked against calls from some individuals, within and outside the state, for a State of Emergency in Kaduna State.
In a press statement signed and issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mordecai Sunday Ibrahim, and entitled: “No To Any Imposition Of State Of Emergency In Kaduna State”, the party said: “While ACN has noted several misplacements of priority and lack of focus in the ruling PDP-led administration of Kaduna State, we condemn in strong terms, such calls for the imposition of a State of Emergency, believing that they are not in the best interest of the greater majority of the people of Kaduna State, but out of sheer mischief.
“It must be clearly stated that as a party, the Kaduna State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria has its political differences with the PDP-led administration in the state.
ACN does not foresee how the present style of Governor Yakowa-led administration can lead the state out of the woods, making positive impacts on the lives of the people. Nevertheless, that is not enough reason to call for the imposition of a State of Emergency in Kaduna State”.
According to Ibrahim: “We have truly witnessed a greater proportion of mayhem and the killing of more innocent lives in several Northern states; yet, these people did not call for the imposition of a State of Emergency in those states.”
ACN however called on all the security agencies in Kaduna State to justify the huge tax-payers money often spent on them by doubling their efforts in intelligence gathering of the activities of criminals towards crime prevention and to forestall future occurrences of bombings, killings and criminalities.
It also called on all citizens of Kaduna State irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation to sheath their swords and live together in peace and harmony, while stressing that the PDP-led administration in the state should be held accountable, while praying that God will restore a lasting peace and harmony in Kaduna State.
