A renowned social critic and president of Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria, Mal. Shehu Sani, yesterday stated that the sacking of General Andrew Azazi and Dr. Bello Haliru as national security adviser and minister of defence respectively will not end the insurgency occasioned by the Boko Haram sect.
He told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that “the sacking of the two men will not in any way end the insurgency and the pervasive insecurity in the country without a comprehensive and sincere dialogue and peace process that will lead to permanent peace.
President Goodluck Jonathan should do more.”
Commenting on the sack of the two security chiefs, he said “it is? a good riddance to bad rubbish”.
He said: “The tenure of the two personalities at the helm of security affairs of the state is the most disastrous and calamitous in the history of Nigeria.
“Azazi has, within his tenure, demonstrated nothing but blatant incompetence and inexperience in handling security issues.
“Azazi’s appointment was a gross mistake. Azazi transformed himself from a failed security adviser to an opportunistic political speaker while the nation burned. Azazi’s dismissal is long overdue. As for Dr Bello, his tenure was idle, docile, uninspiring and unassuming”.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to restore lasting peace in the state, Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa of Kaduna State yesterday held a crucial meeting with various political and religious leaders in the state.
