Ajimobi To Support Oyo Footballers

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has pledged his administration’s support to football players in the state with necessary incentives that will help them exhibit their potentials and enhance their national exposure.

He gave the pledge while receiving the winners of the Under 17 Academicals Football Competition at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan weekend.

The governor, who noted that soccer had become the most popular game across the world, said that it should be given the necessary attention it deserved. According to him, soccer is a game with social, economic and cultural values and should, therefore, be promoted for the purpose of unity.

He expressed displeasure with the attention being given by Nigerians to foreign soccer at the expense of indigenous game and said that he was extremely pleased with the team’s victory at the competition, pledging his administration’s would handsomely reward the players and their officials to further encourage them. “It gives me great pleasure to see that our own team from Oyo State is now the number one in the whole federation. There is no better than this,’’ he remarked.
