The Jos ultra modern 44,000 sitting capacity FIFA standard stadium under construction in the heart of the Tin-city will be commissioned in 2013 in readiness for the state’s bidding for the hosting of the 2014 National Sports Festival.
Governor Jonah Jang gave this indication while on inspection of work at the stadium which has the stadium turf and racing tracks already completed by a foreign firm BCC tropical. Jang told newsmen after the inspection that he is satisfied with the progress of work at the new stadium.
He added that the Bulgarian Construction company handling the project is executing the work based on the advice and specifications of FIFA consultant engaged by the state government.
He said as soon as the stadium is completed next year, the state government will open discussion with the National Sports Commission and the appropriate authorities towards the hosting of the 2014 National Sports Festival. “This stadium is designed and being executed to be the best in the country, the contractor is working in line with the instruction of the FIFA consultant engaged for the purpose. The terrace which has the sitting capacity of 44, 000 will be fully covered, thereby making it the second fully covered stadium after the National Stadium Abuja. By next year we would have the stadium completed in line with FIFA specifications” he said.
He disclosed that on completion, the state government will open discussion with FIFA and the contractor handling the project, the BCC Construction Company to work out modalities of maintaining the stadium.
