Ahmadiyya College and Government Girls Secondary School, Zing, Taraba over the weekend emerged overall winners of boys and girls Nestle Milo Basketball Competition for secondary schools decided at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Lokoja Stadium, Kogi State. Ahmadiyya College defeated Government Secondary School , Danbaba, Zamfara State 62-61 in a high tension encounter in the boys category while GGC Dala lost to defending champions from Taraba 60-44 in the girls category. GGC which had early in the group stage ran away with 17-16 victory over them failed to re-enact that form.
However, in the third place matches played, Government United Secondary School, Lokoja, Kogi and Concerdia College, Yola, Adamawa beat Government Unity Secondary School, Malumfashi and Sacred Heart College, Egule, Kogi 35-28 and 24-23 points respectively to pick the third place positions. At the end of the championship, prizes, certificates and gifts were given to all participating teams while Ahmadiyya and Government Girls Secondary School, Zing, Taraba received giant trophies and N30,000 cheque each.
Kamal Yusuf of Ahmadiyya and Jamila Sulaiman of Zing won the Most Valuable Players (MVP) award while Government Unity Secondary School, Ringim, Jigawa State and Sacred Heart College, Egule, Kogi State won the fair play prizes. The two teams will also represent the conference in the final stage of the competition scheduled to hold in Lagos next month.
