Nsukka United FC yesterday emerged overall champion in the Enugu State 2012 football league after humiliating 2nd placed team, Ingas FC of Enugu 2-0.
A total of 16 teams participated in the well organised grassroots soccer tournament put together by the state football association headed by Ofo Okenwa.
The event was attended by several sports administrators and top government functionaries in the state including incumbent board chairman of Rangers International FC, of Enugu, chief Festus Onuh, as well as one time sports commissioner in the area, Barrister Raymond Nnaji.
Speaking after the exercise, the state FA boss, Hon. Okenwa, who expressed satisfaction with the high level of discipline exhibited by participating teams during the fiesta stressed that: “We are happy that in the end, the best team had emerged champions.”
He noted that the competition had afforded the boys the opportunity to showcase their God given hidden talents in football as many of them he said, really displayed wonderful soccer artistry during the period of the tournament.
The soccer administrator who described the competition as fantastic, hailed the organisation of the annual tournament. He said it was a manifestation of the ongoing silent sports and football development revolution in the state, being championed by the governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime.
