The kidnapped mother of former Okitipupa Local Government Chairman in Ondo State, Mrs Maria Iwala, was released on Wednesday at Ode-Aye in Okitipupa.
She was released at the entrance of Okitipupa-Ore road in Okitipupa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the kidnappers used the victim’s handset to call one of her sons, Mr Taye Iwala, giving him instructions as to where she was dropped.
Describing the experience as harrowing, Mr Taye Iwala said the kidnappers, who called him around 2 p.m. “with mama’s phone, threatened all sorts'' if he tried to outsmart them.
“They told us to come to Warri in Delta State; we were already at Okada junction when we were re-directed to Epe in Lagos State.
“We turned around and were on our way to Lagos when we were re-directed again to where we found mama,” he said.
Explaining further, Iwala said the victim told them she did not eat at the kidnappers' camp until the seventh day when she ate a little ration of bread.
Giving praises to God, the former Okitipupa Local Government Chairman, Dr? Dapo Iwala, described the experience as traumatic.
Confirming the release of Iwala, the Okitipupa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Titilola Lasisi, called on members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the police.
