The Oyo State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed that 30 convictions with jail terms ranging from three months to three years were recorded in the first half of this year.
The state Commander of the agency, Suleiman Jadi, said this? at the celebration of this year's Oyo Drug Free Day commemorating the? United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking jointly organised by the state government and NDLEA on Wednesday in Ibadan.
Jadi said that the convicts? were part of the 68 suspects arrested during the period under review and during which 5,611.340 kilogrammes of hard drugs were seized.
He also disclosed that out of the 68 suspected drug addicts arrested by the agency,64 were males and four females.
Jadi, while speaking at the Drug Free Day celebration with the theme, “Global Action for Healthy Communities Without Drugs”, said? 5,611.340kg of hard drugs were seized? by the Oyo command.
“Out Of this number, 5,606.340kg were cannabis and 5kg of psychotropic substance comprising tramadol, 2.5kg, diazepam 1kg and exol-5, 1.5kg.
“The command had taken drug abuse prevention education to schools, carried out public enlightenment and also established Drug Free Clubs in conjunction with NYSC in local government areas in Oyo State,” Jadi said.
