Magistraste T.O. Abolarinwa, of an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Thursday ordered that Amechi Uche, 40, be remanded in police custody, pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Uche was standing trial on a one-count charge of alleged murder.
“It?is left for this?court to determine if it has jurisdiction to hear the allegations against the accused.
“Since it is a case of murder, the DPP’s advice will provide the proper direction that this court must follow to give substantial justice to all the parties, “ Abolarinwa said.
Abolarinwa said that there was no need to take Uche’s plea and adjourned the case till July 16 for determination.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ajala Ebie said that Uche, allegedly murdered one Mrs Edith Nwokolo, on Feb. 25 during an argument.
Ebie said that the accused, who lived at Esuola St., Okota, Lagos, committed the offence at Mushin Road.
He said that the cause of their argument was yet to be ascertained by the police.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011. (NAN)
