Determined to curtail the effects of torrential rainfall that has continued to wreak havoc in the state, the Lagos state Government has alerted of more rainfall, just as it? has dedicated the June Edition of the Statewide Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise to the evacuation of drainage channels across the state, in anticipation of the intense Rainfall expected as from July 2012.
The Lagos state Commissioner For Environment Mr.TunjiBello, said the state would witness heavier rainfall and severer windstorms in the next fortnight, a situation which it said, called for adequate preparation.
To this end , the commissioner urged Lagosians to troop out in large numbers today for the State monthly clean up exercise which has been specifically dedicated to the cleaning of drains in the state environment.
He admonished Lagosians to join hands with the State Government to ensure a flood free Lagos, saying the Ministry has also intensified its mid-rain cleaning programme.
Bello said the ministry has just completed the pre rain cleaning exercise aimed at ensuring that all forms of impediments on drainage channels are removed to allow for effective discharge of storm water into the lagoon.
