Cross River State Government is embarking on a 4000 housing schemes for its civil and public servants in the state. Already, over N433 million had been spent on the provision of infrastructure facilities at Akpabuyo 810 housing units, less than ten kilometers from Calabar which is about 80 percent completed. Akpabuyo is the first phase and the second phase and subsequent phases will have 410 and 500 housing units respectively.
From the experiences garnered in the execution of the 1st Phase, the 2nd and 3rd Phases will be commenced immediately after with a view to delivering the houses to workers of the state government in record time of 2014.
Besides the first phase situated in South, other phases will be distribute to other major urban areas in the state, Ikom, Ogoja, Obudu, and Ugep. The first phase of the housing units will be commissioned within the 3rd quarter of the year.
Addressing newsmen in his office, the Special Adviser to the governor on Mortgage Finance and Estate Development Department Governor’s office Chief Edward Eta Ogon said presently there are a number of housing projects in the offing; the State government intends to replicate the success achieved in Akpabuyo, in Odupkani, Ugep, Ikom, Obudu & Ogoja LGAs, noting that government is working in partnership with private sectors with a view to ensuring that civil servants have houses they could call their own and at affordable prices.
