The Heads of State and Government of Economic Community Of West Africa States (ECOWAS) has called for support to Nigeria in its fight against the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram.
The supranational body called for this support at the 41st Ordinary Session of its Heads of State and Government held in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire last Saturday.
In the communiqué made available to LEADERSHIP, ECOWAS condemned the “terrorist aggression being perpetrated by Boko Haram in Nigeria that has claimed hundreds of lives and threatens to instigate religious-based conflict in the country” and directed the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja to participate in the efforts to halt the terrorist aggression.
The communiqué also touched of other flash points in the sub region which included Mali, Liberia and Ivorian border clashes and the situation in Guinea Bissau.
