Nasarawa Govt To Partner Dangote, RMRDC On Salt Development

The Nasarawa State Government said on Monday it would partner with Dangote Group of Companies and the Raw Material Research and Development Council to set up salt industries.

Mr. Samuel Nkene-Meshi, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit on the Emir of Awe in Awe.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commissioner was in Awe with officials of the National Salt Company of Nigeria to inspect the salt deposit discovered in the area about 200 years ago.

Nkene-Meshi said that it was the desire of the state government to establish a cluster of salt industries in Awe and Keana.

According to him, when completed, it will be commonly referred to as Nasarawa State salt industry.

“The ministry is presently seeking areas of collaboration with Dangote Group to invest in the development of salt industries to mitigate the economic hardship of the people,” he said

Nkene-Meshi explained that the representatives of the company and that of the council had earlier visited the state to inspect the mineral deposit.

According to the commissioner, with other resources, the state will in the future, not depend on federal allocation to provide basic social needs to its citizens.

The Emir of Awe, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the effort of the government to develop the salt deposit.

The Emir promised to play a supportive role in the development of the industries.
