A night fire outbreak has gutted part of Yola Prisons, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The fire, which started around 8 p.m. caused panic in Yola town with major streets leading to the prison, located near the palace of Lamido of Adamawa cordoned off by security men.
Confirming the incident, the Controller of Prisons, Mr Andrew Barka, who accompanied those injured to Yola Federal Medical Centre said that only two people were injured in the fire incident.
“Only two of our staff sustained minor injuries and I rushed them to Federal Medical Centre for treatment. I cannot say what really caused the fire for now but the fire affected only the administration block, particularly the office of the Chief Warder.
?“All prisoners are safe in their rooms, it is just the administration block that is affected and now things are okay,” Barka added.
NAN reports that meanwhile, night activities have grounded to a halt in Yola town as people are rushing home following the incident.? (NAN)
