The numerous power stations being constructed nationwide may fail to meet the yearnings of the economy if immediate and strategic succession planning was not put in place to ensure smooth transition from the retiring engineers who have sustained the sector all these years, the Federal Government has said.
Minister of State for Power, Darius Ishaku, gave the indication yesterday when he received the Coordinator of the United Nations Systems in Nigeria, Dr. Dauda Toure.
The Minister told the UN Coordinator that Nigeria needed the assistance of the International Community and United Nation’s agencies to help train young engineers to succeed most of the experienced hands who were retiring in the sector now, if the power stations under construction were to have the desired results.
‘’Unless the widening capacity gap between the old generation of engineers and the upcoming ones was immediately bridged, the new power stations would have difficulties in meeting their required regular maintenance and servicing demands,’’ Ishaku said.?
He disclosed that studies have been concluded on some renewable energy sources while feasibility studies were on-going on a number of them.
