First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the appointment of more women into key positions of leadership in the country.
Jonathan stated this when she was hosted by Dr Dalhatu Tafida, Nigeria's High Commissioner to the UK, his wife Salamatu and wives of Nigerian Diplomats at Abuja House in London.
The first lady who made reference to the recent nomination of Justice Aloma?Mukhtar as Nigeria first female chief justice by President Goodluck Jonathan,?added that it was an indication that women are capable and able.
“We asked for 30 per cent representation, President Goodluck Jonathan did not only give us 30 percent but increased it to 35 percent.
“This is an indication of the love President Jonathan has for Nigerian women; he believes in our capability to deliver and do the right thing and we must not disappointment him.''
The first lady also expressed gratitude to Tafida for his tireless effort, commitment and support at ensuring that the last election was won by PDP.
She?described Tafida as a “mentor, brother and above all an instrument God used in ensuring that victory was attained at the polls’’.
Jonatahn?urged wives of diplomats to be united and give support to their husbands to enable them perform their diplomatic assignment diligently.
“As wives of diplomats, you must remain united?irrespective of your tribe or religion; remember you are Nigeria’s image and you must project it positively and well.''
NAN reports that the first lady had earlier attended a UNESCO summit on women in Baltimore, United States where she also reiterated the need for women to be peacemakers in the world. (NAN)
