Some key members of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) have formed a parallel association, following a disagreement with the leadership.
The new body is the Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products (ADITOP).
During the inauguration of ADITOP leadership in Kano on Monday, the National Coordinator, Mr IsaTijjani, said the members opted out of NARTO because their interest was not being protected.
“We have realised that our interest is not being represented in NARTO, hence our resolve to come up with a new and a better alternative for our members,’’ he said.
Tijjani said members of the group held series of meetings? to decide the next line of action and finally agreed that “a new association, which will promote and defend the interest of our members, should be formed’’.
In his remark, the National Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Lawan Dan-zaki, promised to carry everyone along make them? have a sense of belonging.
On the occasion, the new association received donations of vehicles from members to facilitate the work of the National Chairman and the National Coordinator.
