?The Osun Government on Tuesday said it would stand as guarantor to enable 40 of its indigenes operating as commercial drivers in the FCT to access car loans from commercial banks.
?
Mr Segun Bada, the Senior Special Assistant to the Osun Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
?
Bada said that the state government decided to stand surety for its indigenes as a form of assistance, noting the indigenes of the state?formed the largest percentage of the commercial drivers in FCT.
?
He said the majority of the drivers’ vehicles were rickety and old.
?
“They will pay some token and the government will serve as the guarantor between them and some banks so that the banks can facilitate the loan.”
?
According to him, the government is also building “millennium primary and secondary schools” where the school fees and uniforms will be for free.
?
“We are building millennium schools now, massive millennium schools; in the primary sector, they are building new schools and they are giving free uniforms to the students in the primary and secondary schools, so that, those who go to private schools and those who go to public schools can compete very well. Teachers are being retrained and more teachers are being recruited.”
?
Bada said the retraining and recruiting of more teachers would strengthen the education sector and enhance the performance of the pupils and students of the schools.
?
He also said the government was intensifying efforts to sensitise the people to the electoral process in order for them to be able to protect their votes.
?
Mrs Funmilayo Agbeja, a business woman, commended the governor for the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
?
“It seems the functional transformation agenda of Governor Rauf Aregbesola is engineering the mutual relationship among the people living in the state.”
?
She urged the government not to relent on its environmental assessment programme and equipping of hospitals, adding that cleanliness was next to Godliness. (NAN)
