The Senate will today screen the most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar as nominee for chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).
This was disclosed by chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang who stated that the Senate will today screen and possibly confirm her position as the first female CJN in the country.
President Goodluck Jonathan last Wednesday nominated Mukhtar to be the CJN, a nomination that has been greeted by commendation from the stakeholders.
The outgoing CJN Justice Dahiru Musdapher will bow out on? Sunday, July 15, while Mukhtar, if confirmed, is expected to be sworn in as the new CJN on Monday, July 16.
The judiciary will also hold a valedictory session for Musdapher on Friday, July 13.
