With less than 24 hours to Edo Governorship Election, activities in the ancient Benin City were yesterday heightened as thousands of persons were seen in different groups discussing theissue of today’s election.
LEADERSHIP WEEKEND investigation revealed that cost of living suddenly rose, especially hotels accommodation whose prices jumped almost a hundred percent.
Tension increased at the popular Ring Road King square with youths numbering over three thousand assembled at different special centres insisting with gesticulations on the candidate of their choice to win.
Prices of food items including drink were also not left out in the struggle for the election.? For instance, a bottle of beer in most of the social centres visited which used to cost between N200 and N250 sells for N300.Okada riders and the popular Keke Napep which used to hoist ComradeAdams Oshiomhole’s poster were seen clad in their union T-shirt in deep conversation of the election.
However, our correspondent reports that some persons who were interviewed and did not want their names in print said; “IfOshiomhole did not win, we will burn all the buildings in Benin City”.
While others also did not want their names mentioned said the Comrade Governor deserves a second term. Adding that what might militate against his winning is his autocracy measure and garrulous way of talking including insults he had rained on a party political leaders in the state.
In some part of the city, further investigation revealed that there was a total calm as almost everybody in the areas were seen discussing among one another but not ready to the discuss the issue of the election until results are out.
Vehicular movement increased as visitors coming into the town from other state for the election were held spell bound with their luggage waiting for vehicle that could carry them to their hotel rooms.
