Reports that the Northern region is behind the rising level of insecurity in the country has led a group in the North to speak out on the region’s position.
The Zumunta Incorporated, a Northern people’s forum, has stated that the North is not the root cause of the security challenges that the country is presently facing.
Speaking during the on-going 19th International Convention of the Northern People’s Frontiers in Houston, Texas, United States, on Saturday, the President of the group, Dr. Ezekiel Macham, faulted the claims that Boko Haram was killing innocent people because of? the cause of the North, stressing that the Northern region is the most affected with the attacks on innocent citizens by the Islamic sect.
The Zumunta president noted that parts of the problems of Boko Haram are products of injustice and poor governance, stressing that the Federal Government had always neglected the challenges and problems in the North.
Speaking further at the convention entitled: Challenges in Northern Nigeria: A Quest for Stability and Development, Dr. Macham said the government, through the newly appointed National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, should look for the leaders of the Boko Haram and dialogue with them.
