The residents of Nyanya in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, in the past two weeks have been persistently rattled and terrorised by serial robbery attacks which have forced some of them to flee their homes at nights.
A senior special adviser to a serving senator, who does not want his name mentioned, told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY? that a? gang of six men apprehended him at gun-point at the gate of his house around 8.30pm on his return from office.
They? seized the key of his Nissan Amanda, he said. The robbers, according to him, went away with all the valuables inside his car, and attempted stealing the car, but could not drive away as the car was already programmed. “They had to go with the things that were handy. I lost well over N300,000 in both cash and valuables,” he lamented.
The following day, just 70 metres away from the scene of the last robbery, another attack took place. The entire occupants of a four flats building were robbed.?
Some of the victims, who narrated their ordeals to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, said the robbers assaulted them before parting away with their valuables. “I wouldn’t wish what we experienced to happened to my enemies,” one of the victim? said.
Others were in shock and refused to talk to the press, stressing that it was baseless since it would not bring back their stolen items. “I have lost all my life savings and my car. We thank God that we are still alive, but we will not say anything. But it’s unfortunate that the country has degenerated to where robbers operate with impunity,” he said.
The next day, a couple, who were preparing for their? wedding, were reportedly robbed and injured, while all the monies and goods meant for the wedding were stolen. The wedding was therefore suspended.
However, the Nyanya DPO,? Aminu Garba, said in all these, the police never received any distress call. He further said that “on one instance, where the police was called, we responded and even made arrest” However, those arrested, he said, are helping the police in its investigations. ?????
