FG Distributes 2M Textbooks To Primary Schools In The Northwest – Minister

The Federal Government has distributed over two million textbooks on four core subjects to primary schools in the North-west zone, the Minister of state for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike,? said??????? has said.

Wike said the books were distributed under the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme? to enhance teaching and learning.?

The minister said on Monday in Katsina at the flag-off ceremony of distribution of instructional materials to the schools that, 784,000 library resource materials for Junior Secondary Schools were also distributed in the area.

He said that the textbooks were on English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Basic Science and Technology subjects.

Wike added that the two million textbooks were part of the 14 million textbooks procured by the Federal Government for distribution to primary schools across the country this year.

According to him, the gesture is part of the government's commitment towards improving the quality of basic education offered to children irrespective of their parents’ economic or social status.??

“The government remains committed to the goal of achieving a pupil per textbook ratio of 1:1 in all subjects across the level of basic education system,'' he said.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Ahmed Modibbo, said that the programme was designed to eradicate illiteracy, ignorance and poverty among Nigerians.

Modibbo said that the aim was to stimulate and accelerate national development, political consciousness and national integration.

He urged teachers and parents to ensure that the children made effective utilisation of the textbooks.

Modibbo commended Katsina State Government for supporting the UBE programme, and urged it to keep up the good work for the overall educational development of the state.
