Following last Saturday’s victory of Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in the state governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin yesterday presented the governor-elect with his certificate of return amid jubilation from party supporters.
INEC Commissioner retired Col. Mohammed Hammanga who made the presentation yesterday was flanked by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Kassim Geida.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the presentation, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said his election was a common unanimity across the three senatorial districts adding that “his candidature has re-united the people of Edo State.”
“The challenge is to ensure even development across the 18 local government areas and I am particularly grateful to the people of Benin Kingdom for burying the whole idea of ethnic politics in the life of the state am encourage by their decisive voice that you can see that I won even more votes in Edo South than even in my local government. And I am committed in servicing that trust. And to all our people in Edo South, North and Central, I am sure that the people are united in saying continue with the job.”
The governor used the occasion to apologise to those whom he might have offended during the electioneering campaign.
“I am convinced that there is space for all of us; all the political forces to join forces with me so that together we will deliver development to our people. I want to believe that we all went into the race because of the people.
