The recalled local government chairmen in Imo State have resumed duties in their various council headquarters, but are forced to operate under canopies and trees, LEADERSHIP WEEKEND’s investigation has revealed.
It was further gathered that the use of trees and canopies became necessary following the refusal of the state government appointed transition committee chairmen to release the keys to various offices.
In a dramatic twist, however, most of the council chairmen who resumed work yesterday had to force the doors of their offices open.?
State chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Mrs Ruby Emele, who was also affected, recounted her experience, saying, “I am right here inside the premises of my council but I am still searching for the keys.”
The state secretary of ALGON, Mr Enyinna Onuegbu also suffered the same fate as he operated under a canopy.
There was, however, a heavy presence of the police who were apparently drafted to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
