Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika has reiterated Army’s commitment to protecting the nation against external aggression, stating that the Army is still alive in the fight against terrorism and other internal security challenges.
The Army Chief stated this yesterday after test-firing some of the refurbished Artillery’s armoured war vehicles at the end of one week Combat Support Arms Training (COSAT), held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia.
According to the COAS, “Earlier, we witnessed a demonstration by counter terrorism unit, which is geared towards fighting internal security threat.
What we have watched now is a bigger thing, because, in spite of our involvement in fighting internal security threat, we are not losing sight of the fact that our primary responsibility is the defence of Nigeria against external aggression.
“What we have just demonstrated here is that we are ever ready to defend the country. All the weapons fired were refurbished by the Nigerian Army’s electrical and mechanical engineers after so many years of redundancy. We have test-fired them and they meet the global standard expected”, said the Army Chief.
He however, reassured of his office’s commitment towards encouraging research and innovations by the various formations of the Army, especially the Signal and Engineering Corps towards improving the efforts of the Nigerian Army.
