The ambition of Nigeria’s captain, Joseph Yobo to secure a permanent move to Turkish Super Lig giants, Fenerbahce has hit a snag. English Barclays Premier League side, Everton, have insisted on a ?4 million transfer fee for the 31-year-old.
But the Turkey club has made it clear that they are ready to pay an outright sum of ?2 million for Nigeria’s most capped player. SuperSport.com was informed by a close confidant to Yobo that Fenerbahce is still keen on signing him on a permanent deal and is exploring options of meeting up with the ?4 million valuation.
Fenerbahce are looking at using their performance in the UEFA Champions League as a bargaining chip should Everton allow Yobo join them for an initial knockdown fee plus add-ons. “Fener really want him, so they are making other arrangements hinging on how far they go in the Uefa Champions League to make the payment,” SuperSport.com was told.
But talks between the Nigerian centre-back and Everton have broken down badly in the past days leading to Fenerbahce signing Turkey defender, Egemen Korkmaz, on a free in June from rivals, Besiktas, on a three-year deal. The Yellow Canaries are also looking at prizing away another defender, Rolando from FC Porto should they fail to finalise a deal for Yobo before the summer transfer window closes. Yobo has spent the last two seasons on loan at Fenerbahce.
Two English sides, Leicester City and Norwich City have been linked to the Nigerian defender.
