Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole has commended the role of the media in deepening democracy even as he expressed satisfaction over the role of Journalists during the Edo State governorship election.
Speaking yesterday, in Benin, Oshiomhole, who was returned as governor, haven emerged winner of the July 14 poll, said the media was balanced in their report? before, during and after the election.
He said, “The media did extremely well in reporting the Edo election, they balanced things up, and took the Edo project with seriousness, it was like a personal project to them.
“This in a way reinforces the role of the media, as the vehicle to drive Nigeria’s democracy. The media has never shirked away, in promoting the cause of democracy and keeping Nigerians and the entire world abreast of political reconstruction in the country. This to me is to their collective glory.”
Enjoining the media to keep up with their responsibility, the Governor said: “And, keep up the good work, we on our part will try our best. At least, for people to vote for me ahead of Chief (Tony Anenih) in Edo Central, it means that I have to do more.
“People voted for me across the 18 local government areas, and so I have to work more. Edo people have spoken, and when people have fought your battle, there is nothing more to say. The rebellion has been crushed and all we need now is move on.”
