The Imo State Police Command has rescued a kidnapped victim, Mr. Patrick Ifeanyi Okoro, who was kidnapped from his private hospital at Onitsha, Anambra State.
According to the Police Public Relation Officer in the state, Mr. Vitalis Onugu who disclosed this to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the medical doctor was abducted from his hospital, St. Patrick Hospital and Maternity on Monday at about 8am.He was subsequently taken to Amakohia Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state alongside? another victim they kidnapped at Ogbaku in Imo State.
Onugu further disclosed that unknown to the kidnappers their activity had earlier been reported to the police by a good citizen when they abducted their first victim.
He said that the police were able to keep track of the hoodlums who were said to be four in number based on tip off.
According to him the police besieged their hide out in an uncompleted building in a village called Umuike, Amakohia Ubi, Owerri West and smoked them out in a bloody gun battle, killing one of them in the process and injuring others who? escaped with bullet wounds.
The kidnapped victims according to Onugu were rescued unhurt. At the scene? police? recovered two magazines and one AK 47 riffle allegedly belonging to the kidnappers.
Meanwhile the police have advised? members of the public to report any suspicious move by strangers or? any body suspected to be carrying bullet wounds to security agents.
