Why We Sacked 19 Workers Of Delta Line – Commissioner

Speculations over the Delta State government’s decision to sack 19 Delta-Line Workers, was laid to rest yesterday when the state Transport Commissioner, Mr. Ben Igbakpa disclosed that they were sacked over their inability to offer the services for which they were employed.

While noting that the sacked workers abandoned their responsibilities,? the Commissioner explained that vehicles for repairs had had their parts sold thereby leaving many of the company’s fleet of vehicles not road worthy.

He said that on assumption of office, a number of vehicles were discovered to have been vandalised adding that upon investigation it was also discovered that? the sacked workers were responsible for the theft.

According to him: “We also observed that many of the motor mechanics have not acquired skills in that area before being employed by the company” pointing out that apart from their ‘itching palms’ they were found to be redundant, a situation that could not be condoned by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan led administration.

He also disclosed plans by the state government to privatise the company, noting that since the decision was taken, abandoned vehicles of the company had been repaired.

Confirming that over 96 workers of the company had been laid off for various offences, the Commissioner further disclosed that few of the workers were redeployed to security department as they fell short of the requirement to work in higher position in the company.
