A woman, Mary Okechukwu, 41, on Thursday dragged her husband, Onyema, before grade ‘A’ Customary Court, Ojo, seeking dissolution of their six years old marriage due to her husband’s dirtiness.
Mary, who sells second hand clothes, said that the marriage was blessed with a son.
She accused her husband, a vulcaniser, of being dirty always and refused to take his bath after the day’s job.
The petitioner said that Okechukwu had formed the habit of returning home with his work cloth and would not even bother to take a bath before going to bed.
She said that she had taken it upon herself to get his bath water ready before he returns but would deliberately insist, adding that she could no longer bear the situation.
According to her, the situation had made her deny him sexual intercourse, saying that he?? would fight and beat her mercilessly.
“In the night of that day, he wanted to sleep with me but I refused and reminded him of how he had refused to take his bath. He dragged me in order to force me but I pushed him away and he started beating me.? In the process I hit my eye on the wooden bed,’’ she said.
Okechukwu denied all the allegations and told the court that he would not consent to the divorce.
The respondent added that he could not tolerate her wife dictating to him when to take his bath.
“I am not a child, she tells me to go and take my bath as if she is giving me an order. Instead of obeying her, I would rather sleep dirty.
“The problem is with her attitude. She addresses me as if I was a pig and I can’t tolerate that because I married her and she met me doing this job,’’ he said.
The President of the Court, Alhaji T. K Keshinro, ordered the parties to return home and try to settle amicably and report back to court.
Keshinro adjourned the case to Aug. 16 for hearing.
